Foreign Minister of MoroccoSalaheddine Mezouar made the statement during his meeting with ASEANSecretary General Le Luong Minh in Jakarta on April 24 on the sidelinesof the Asia-Africa Conference.
He stressed his country’s interests in strengthening South-South cooperation and ASEAN’s role in the progress.
Morocco is striving to become a logistic and financial hub for the European, African and Middle East markets, he added.
It is exploring the possibility of building a roadmap promoting economic exchanges and investments in the bloc, he said.
Minhpraised Morocco’s joining of the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation (TAC)in Southeast Asia and its wish to forge closer ties with ASEAN.
He named trade, investment, people-to-people connection and education as potential cooperative areas for the two sides.
Heexpressed ASEAN’s concerns about the violent rise of terrorist andextreme groups in Syria and Iraq, underlining the bloc’s commitment toworking with the international community, including African and MiddleEast countries, in the fight.-VNA
