Besides Can Tho city, Chevron Vietnam will joinVCSF to grant 390 similar scholarships to pupils with difficulties inthe southern provinces of Kien Giang and Ca Mau.
Thescholarships are part of a 2011 sponsorship agreement between ChevronVietnam , Japan ’s Mitsui Oil Exploitation Co. Ltd (MOECO), Thailand’s PTT Exploitation and Production Co. Ltd (PTTEP) and the VCSF.
The agreement aims to support Vietnamese education through programmesto grant scholarships to disadvantaged students and upgrade schools infive localities, namely Ca Mau, Kien Giang, Hau Giang, Bac Lieu and CanTho. The total investment of these programmes is nearly 3 billion VND.
Chevron, MOECO and PTTEP are foreign investors of anoffshore gas development project in Vietnam which provides gas forCa Mau and Can Tho power plants.
On the same day,the Tuoi tre (Youth) newspaper, in coordination with the GreenFeedCompany, continued to implement a programme supporting farmers to taketheir children to school in the southern province of Dong Nai .
The programme will provide 60 farmers households in six communes ofXuan Loc and Thong Nhat districts with zero-interest loans worth 700million VND in total from October 2011 to October 2013.
According to the newspaper’s representative, the programme granted 210million VND to 180 farmer households in Long An, Binh Dinh and Hung Yenprovinces./.
