Vientiane (VNA) - The Vietnamese Government offered 62 scholarships more to Overseas Vietnamese (OV) students in Laos at a ceremony held in Vientiane on February 15.
The new scholarships will enable a total of 92 OV students in Laos to pursue university and higher education courses in Vietnam in the 2015-2016 academic year, representing the highest number so far.
Vietnamese Ambassador to Laos Nguyen Manh Hung said that the scholarships manifest the special care of the Government for Vietnamese expats in Laos, hoping the awarded students will help strengthen the special ties and overall cooperation between the two countries.
Under the bilateral cooperation agreement on education and training for the 2015-2016 academic year between the two governments, the Vietnamese side would present 1,000 scholarships for Lao students, including 30 for OV students.
During his working visit to Laos last September, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung agreed to award an addition of 62 scholarships after he realised the OV’s demand for study in Vietnam.-VNA
