Hanoi (VNA) – Criminal proceedings have been launchedagainst more former officials of the Joint Stock Commercial Bank for Investmentand Development of Vietnam (BIDV) with the charge of “violating regulations onbanking activities, other activities relating to banking activities”, theMinistry of Public Security said on January 10.
Tran Bac Ha, former Chairman of the State-ownedBIDV’s Board of Directors, has faced this charge, regulated in Article 206 ofthe 2015 Penal Code, since late November 2018. He is now being investigated formore violations relating to the approval of granting credit for the Trung DungTrade and Tourism Co. Ltd.
On January 9, the investigation police agency ofthe Ministry of Public Security also launched criminal proceedings against andput five other BIDV officials into temporary detention for the same charge.
They consist of Doan Anh Sang (former DeputyDirector General of the BIDV), Ngo Duy Chinh (former Director of the BIDV’s HaThanh branch), Nguyen Xuan Giap (former Deputy Director of the branch), PhamHong Quang (former head of the branch’s corporate customers division No. 1),and Dang Thanh Nam (former employee at the branch’s corporate customers divisionNo. 1).
Meanwhile, Doan Hong Dung, Director of the TrungDung company, was charged with “abusing prestige to appropriate assets” underArticle 175 of the 2015 Penal Code. He was also taken into police custody.
Last November, besides Tran Bac Ha, severalother BIDV officials were also detained and investigated for “violatingregulations on banking activities, other activities relating to bankingactivities”.
Ha, who is also former Secretary of the BIDVParty Committee, was dispelled from the Party. The Party CentralCommittee’s Inspection Commission said he held the main responsibility for wrongdoingsand shortcomings of the BIDV Party Committee’s standing board for the 2010-2015and 2015-2020 tenures. –VNA
