CanTho (VNA) - Firefighters on night of March 23 were still battling ahuge fire that broke out before at a Taiwanese garment factory in the MekongDelta city of Can Tho.
After hours of being basically contained, the fire was flared up again at about 9pm, threatening the safety of the adjacent residential area. Over 200 households were evacuated to a nearby school.
The blaze started in the morning on the top floor of a five-storey building in TraNoc Industrial Zone in Can Tho, where the garment firm Kwong Lung – Meko storesfabric. Hundreds of workers were forced to flee.
No casualties were reported.
Hundreds of firefighters from nearby provinces, including Ho Chi Minh City,have been dispatched to help Can Tho battle the blaze.
Kwong Lung – Meko specialises in feather processing and garment production.
Its factory covers about 17,000 square metresand has more than 1,300 workers in the Tra Noc Industrial Zone, about 15km fromdowntown Can Tho.-VNA
