Hanoi (VNA) – The InvestigationPolice Agency under the Ministry of Public Security has begun criminalproceedings against Hoang Huu Chau for “swindling to appropriate assets” in thecase relating to Phan Van Anh Vu (also known as Vu Nhom).
Chau, born in 1963 and residing in ward 11,Phu Nhuan district, Ho Chi Minh City, was prosecuted and put into temporarydetention on August 24 in line with Article 174 of the 2015 Penal Code, theMinistry of Public Security said on August 27.
He was accused of misappropriating hundredsof thousands of US dollars from Phan Van Anh Vu by promising to help him andhis relatives get US passports.
The agency is expanding the probe to clarifycrimes committed by Chau and other individuals.
On April 17,seven other persons were temporarily detained for their alleged involvement inthe case.
Phan Van Anh Vu, born in 1975 and residing in HaiChau district, Da Nang city, was charged with “deliberately disclosing statesecrets,” “tax evasion”, “abusing position and power while performing duties,”and “violatingregulations on management and use of State assets, causing loss andwastefulness”.
On July 30, the Hanoi People’s Court sentenced Vu nine years in prison for“deliberately disclosing state secrets” under Article 337 of the 2015 PenalCode.-VNA
