Kuala Lumpur (VNA) – The Malaysian Government will start its re-hiring programme for illegal foreign workers, which will be implemented until the end of 2016.

The programme was made public on February 15, aiming to give an opportunity to illegal foreign workers in Malaysia and entails issuing valid work permits to meet labour demands in specific sectors after tight screening.

Among the main criteria are that the illegal foreign worker must have entered the country legally, has a current employer and must not have a criminal record.

Malaysia’s companies Iman Resources and Bukit Megah are authorized to carry out the programme for workers from Indonesia and Myanmar, respectively, while Consortium PMF Group will be in charge of workers from other countries, including Vietnam.

The Vietnamese Embassy in Malaysia will inform Vietnemese workers of the registration procedure for the programme accordingly.

Earlier, Malaysia suspended receiving new foreign workers but did not mention for how long.-VNA
