Kuala Lumpur (VNA) – Malaysia will start collecting road charge from foreign vehicles at its border gates on November 1, reported by The Star.

The initial collection exercise will involve only private-registered cars when entering Malaysia via border gates in Johor state bordering Singapore, which levied its counterpart in a long time, said Liow Tiong Lai, Malaysian Minister of Transport, on October 29.

The Minister stressed that the levy is not discriminatory to Singaporean vehicles since transports from Thailand will have to pay the similar fee.

The tentative fee will be 20 ringgit (4.64 USD) per vehicle each turn, said the Minister, adding that Johor state will receive 25 percent of the charge.

About 20,000 vehicles enter Malaysia via Johor every month, according to statistics.-VNA
