Kuala Lumpur (VNA) – Malaysia plans to establish a new army camp in Hutan Melintang, Bagan Datoh, and Perak to protect its sea and land borders from the self-styled Islamic State (IS).
Malaysian Defence Minister Hishammuddin Hussein said the camp will be built on a 142 hectare site and accommodate more than 1,000 personnel.
The base will help strengthen monitoring in the Bagan Datoh sea between Malaysia and Indonesia to ensure security, tackle cross-border crime and promote trade, he said.
He added that despite economic difficulties, Malaysia will continue to enhance capacity for army forces to ensure transnational security and maritime defence.-VNA
