Kuala Lumpur (VNA) – Malaysia recorded bilateral trade of 10.8 billion USD with the Republic of Korea (RoK) in the first eight months of this year, making it the 12th biggest trade partner of the RoK
Malaysian Ambassador to the RoK Rohana Ramli said Malaysia’s Look East policy has helped promote its cooperation with the RoK.
The Southeast Asian country should work to raise Korean businesses’ trust, especially in economic partnership, she said, expressing her confidence that two-way trade will increase in the coming time.
In 2014, bilateral trade reached nearly 18.7 billion USD. Malaysia mainly exported liquefied natural gas, oil and electric products, while importing machinery, oil and electric products.
The RoK is currently the 10th largest investor of Malaysia in the manufacturing field. In the first half of this year, Malaysia approved six Korean investment projects worth 60.9 million USD.
Regarding tourism, Malaysia welcomed about 150,000 RoK visitors in January-April, a year-on-year rise of 12.1 percent. Meanwhile, close to 121,800 Malaysian tourists visit the RoK in January-August, a decline of 8.6 percent compared to the same period last year.-VNA
