Malaysian police crippled a syndicate involved in producing forged passports, with the arrest of 19 individuals including two Immigration Department officers on May 7.

Kuala Lumpur (VNA) – Malaysian police crippled a syndicate involved in producing forged passports, with the arrest of 19 individuals including two Immigration Department officers on May 7.

The detained comprise 10 Sri Lankans, six Malaysians and three Indians.

Police’s investigation found that the syndicate tried to send those Sri Lankans to Geneva, Switzerland for a free of 60,000 ringgits (14,747 USD) each person.

They sought to buy genuine passports from local holders who look the same or almost similar to Sri Lankan migrants at a price of 1,000-2,500 ringgits (254.8-614.4 USD).

The syndicate then prepared an easy passage with the help of the immigration officers on duty at the Immigration counter of the Kuala Lumpur International Airport.
