Wanndy, 27, was believed to be a senior leaderof the Malay-speaking IS cell known as Khatibah Nusantara which is active inSoutheast Asia.
He was the region's top recruiter and was placedon the US Treasury's Office of Foreign Asset Control wanted list on March 30for providing financial and operational support for the terror group.
Malaysian authorities believed that Wanndy, whowent to Syria in 2017, was the mastermind behind a grenade attack on a puboutside Kuala Lumpur on June 28 last year, claiming eight lives.
Wannady was also accused of plotting severalattacks that were prevented by Malaysian police since 2013.-VNA
