KualaLumpur (VNA) – Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad hasemphasized that turning thecountry’s cities into smart cities would be one of the highlights in its 12th 5-year plan.
The Malaysian leader said this while addressing the opening ceremony of theCities 4.0 Conference and Exhibition 2019 on September 23.
The smart cities will be integrated with sustainable technologies in their servicessuch as 5G connectivity, cashless community, autonomous public transport, dronedelivery, energy-efficient buildings, smart treatment of water and wastemanagement that can improve public safety and the quality of life of citizens,he said.
Earlier, the Malaysian Government launched the Kembara Digital MalaysiaProgramme that would enable Malaysians to enjoy high quality and affordabledigital connectivity wherever they were.
Several Malaysian cities havepursued the smart city model such as Kuala Lumpur, Kota Kinabalu, Kuching,Iskandar and Kulim./.
