Malaysia detains 6 Vietnamese fishermen

– A Vietnamese boat with six crew members was detained for fishing in Malaysian waters, the Bernama News Agency reported on April 14.

Mohd Marmizi Md Mor, Director of the Kemaman Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) in Terengganu stated that all the Vietnamese fishermen, including the skipper,were arrested at about 10:00 am (local time) on April 10 at about 70 nautical miles (130 km) from Kuala Kemaman.

He added that none of the fishermen had any documents or fishing permits on inspection.

The fishermen, aged between 15-50, are being held in custody. The boat with equipment worth 200,000 Malaysian Ringgit (51,000 USD) has been confiscated.-VNA
