Malaysia, Brunei foster cooperation

Malaysia and Brunei on October 4 agreed to strengthen partnership in a string of areas, while initiating discussion on the Pan Bormeo Highway network.

Kuala, Lumpur  (VNA) – Malaysia and Brunei on October 4 agreed to strengthen partnership in a string of areas, while initiating discussion on the Pan Bormeo Highway network.

At a meeting between Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak and Sultan of Brunei Hassanal Bolkiah, as part of the latter’s official visit, the two leaders concurred that the project is significant in fostering socio-economic connectivity between the two Southeast Asian countries.

With a total length of 2,325km, the network runs from Telok Melano to Lawas in Sumatra and from Sindumin to Tawal in Sabah . It is scheduled to complete in 2021.

The leaders also reiterated their commitments of cooperation in maritime, while urging authorities of both sides to continue seeking measures to foster coordination towards the signing of a maritime deal.

At the same time, they also agreed to boost cooperation in fishing, tourism, pandemic prevention, as well as the speeding up of the conclusion of demarcation in their shared land border.-VNA
