Hanoi (VNA) – Malaysian authorities have arrested six of its citizens forsuspected involvement in activities related to the self-claimed Islamic State(IS), announced Malaysian police on May 3.
The four men and two women were captured in counter-terrorism operations held inseveral states of Malaysia from March 24 to April 25.
Thepolice said one of the female suspects was detained once by Turkish authoritiesin last February when she was trying to travel to Syria to join IS. The otherfemale suspect was accused of promoting terrorism propaganda through the socialmedia platform of Google Plus.
Ofthe male suspects, two were accused of smuggling fire arms from southernThailand. The third man was arrested at the airport after engaging in militantactivities in Syria. The last one was believed to use Facebook to promoteterrorism as well as a plot to attack a mosque in the northern Penang state ofMalaysia.
Thepolice are seeking for another suspect, Muhammad Muzaffa Arieff Bin Junaidi,aged 27, who had fled to southern Thailand with various weapons.-VNA
