Kuala Lumpur (VNA) – Airport charges for flights from Malaysia to other ASEAN destinations will be slashed from January 1, 2017, the Malaysian Aviation Commission (Mavcom) said on October 31.
Accordingly, the commission will introduce a new Passenger Service Charge (PSC) tier for travel to ASEAN countries at 35 RM (8.34 USD) per departing passenger.
This makes Malaysia the first ASEAN country to introduce such a tier, aiming to further boost traffic to and from the ten-member group.
The new charges for international destinations at airports nationwide will be 73 RM. For domestic destinations, the new rate is RM11 from all airports.
The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) groups Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
The ASEAN Community was formally established on December 31, 2015.-VNA
