Hanoi (VNA) – National Assembly deputies discussed the draft revise Law onDrug Prevention and Control on October 24, as part of their ongoing 10th session.
According to Public Security Minister To Lam, the Law on Drug Prevention andControl 2020, which was revised and supplemented in 2008, has created animportant legal foundation for the State management over drug-related issues.
However, the law comprises some contents that are incoherent with theCriminal Code and a number of relevant laws, affecting the efficiency of drugprevention and control.
At the same time, the changes in the situation and the newly-emerged socialrelations related to drug prevention and control have led to the demands in thedesigning of suitable regulations, he said.
Stressing the need to revise the Law on Drug Prevention and Control, MinisterLam said that the revision will help complete the legal mechanisms and policieson drug prevention and combat, while promoting the strength of the wholepolitical system, agencies, and individuals in the work, increasing resourcesfor the work, and preventing drug to enter the country.
He said that the bill is built on the foundation of the Law on DrugPrevention and Control 2000 and the detailing of three groups of policiesstated in the proposal of drafting the bill approved by the Government.
The bill comprises eight chapters and 69 articles, with 15 new articlescompared to the old one.
At the session, deputies also listened to a report verifying the bill deliveredby head of NA Committee for Social Affairs Nguyen Thuy Anh./.
