Lawmakers elect NA Vice Chairs, heads of NA committees

– National Assembly (NA) deputies discussed a report on the nomination for the positions of NA Vice Chair and member of the NA Standing Committee, which was delivered by top legislator Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan during a plenary session in Hanoi on April 4.

Under the chair of NA Vice Chairwoman Tong Thi Phong, the NA also listened to a report requesting the approval of a diplomatic note on granting visas between Vietnam and the US, which was presented by President Tran Dai Quang.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh and head of the NA’s Committee for External Relations Tran Van Hang delivered reports on approving and examining the diplomatic note, respectively.

Three lawmakers gave their opinions on the need for the adoption, and relevant legal regulations.

During the afternoon session under the chair of the top legislator, NA Vice Chairwoman Tong Thi Phong reported the outcomes of the discussions on electing NA Vice Chairs and members of the NA Standing Committee.

Lawmakers later cast secret ballots for the election.

On April 5, the NA is scheduled to announce the result of the voting and vote to adopt draft resolutions on electing NA Vice Chairs and members of the NA Standing Committee.

They will later discuss in groups a list of nominees for the position of Chair of the NA’s Ethnic Council and head of several NA committees, the State Auditor General, as well as pass the draft revised Press Law and the Law on Child Protection, Care and Education.

In the afternoon, the NA will elect the Chair of the NA’s Ethnic Council, heads of several NA committees, and the State Auditor General.-VNA
