Vientiane (VNA) – Lao Deputy Prime Minister Somdy Douangdy has said thegovernment is preparing to initiate investment promotion for developing andimproving transport infrastructure through the Public Private Partnershipmechanism.

The country is facing many challenges dueto limited funds to meet with the rapid increase in sector demand, he said atthe Intergovernmental Tenth Regional Environmentally Sustainable TransportForum in Asia in Vientiane capital on March 14.

According to the Deputy PM, Laos is a least developed and landlocked developingcountry that continues to face many challenges and impediments in thedevelopment of infrastructure and quality human resources, among others.

At the forum which runs till March 16, Bambang Susantono, Vice President of theAsian Development Bank (ADB) said the bank will provide 1.7 trillion USD for infrastructuredevelopment and 600 million USD for transportation in Asia and the Pacific.-VNA
