Vientiane (VNA) – Officials from the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the Lao Ministry of Health went to Xieng Khouang province to investigate a “mystery disease” that has affected hundreds of people, reported Vientiane Times newspaper.
The newspaper quoted a health official from Xieng Khouang as saying that about 300 locals have got the disease but no one died from it.
The patients, mainly from Paek district, have become ill since April with symptoms of fever, vomit, yellow eyes and asthenia.
The official also said that the provincial 100-bed hospital is now overloading.
Doctors at the Xieng Khouang hospital have no diagnosis on the cause of the illness, according to the newspaper.
Xieng Khouang, located in the north of Laos , share the border with central province of Nghe An.-VNA
