Laos enjoys trade surplus with Vietnam

Hanoi (VNA) – Laos enjoyed a trade surplus of 6.5 million USD with Vietnam in the first four months of this year, according to the Vietnam General Department of Customs.

In the period, Lao exports to Vietnam reached 158.5 million USD.

Major exports from Laos to Vietnam included wood and wooden products worth 65.2 million USD in value, fertiliser worth 12 million USD, and mineral ores worth 11 million USD.

Meanwhile, Vietnam ’s main exports to Laos were iron and steel with a turnover of 27.8 million USD; petrol, 18.3 million USD; and transportation means,15.7 million USD.

Bilateral trade between the two nations totalled 1.3 billion USD in 2014, up 14.2 percent from the previous year.

The figure is expected to hit 2 billion USD by 2020, an increase of 40 percent against 2014.-VNA
