Laos is conducting its 4 th Population and Housing Census nationwide, starting from March 1 through to March 7.
Laos is conducting its 4 th Population and Housing Census nationwide, starting from March 1 through to March 7.

The census is intended to collect fundamental information on thecountry’s population, population structure, educational attainment,accessibility to health services, employment, unemployment, and housingconditions.

Lao Deputy Prime Minister BounponeBouttanavong, who is also Chairman of the National Steering Committeefor the 4 th Census, urged surveyors, inspectors and other relevantbodies to work hard and overcome all difficulties for the surveysuccess.

The results of the census will provide animportant source of information to help the Government assess theoutcomes of the 7 th 5-year Socio-economic Development Plan between2011 and 2015 and the progress towards the targets set for theMillennium Development Goals in 2015.

Facts andfigures found will be vital for the preparatory works for the 10 thCongress of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party in early 2016 as wellas the planning of the next 5-year Socio-economic Development Plan(2016-2020) and the nation’s development visions towards 2030.

Laos has successfully undertaken three Population and Housing Census in 1985, 1995 and 2005.-VNA

Indonesia begins major oil, gas exploration in Sulawesi
