Thua Thien-Hue (VNA) – Some 500 Laos students, who are studying in thecentral province of Thua Thien-Hue, gathered on April 7 to celebrate theirtraditional New Year festival of Bunpimay.
The celebration was held by the Hue University and Hue College of Educationwith various traditional rituals such as splashing water to pray for prosperityin the new year, and tying strings around a person’s wrist to wish for goodhealth, luck and success.
Lao students introduced their unique culture through their traditional dance.
Bunpimay festival is observed on April 13-16 annuallyto pray for good weather, health, abundant harvests and prosperity. The programmehelps cheer up Lao students and tightens friendship and solidarity between thetwo countries.
On the occasion, the LaoConsulate General in Da Nang city presented certificates of merit to 15 Laostudents for their excellent academic performance.
Universities and collegesacross Thua Thien-Hue province have trained about 1,200 Lao students via acooperation programme between Vietnamese and Lao localities. Annually, theprovince provides 10 scholarships for students in Laos’ provinces of Salavan,Sekong, Champasak, Khammuon and Savannakhet.-VNA
