Lang Son (VNA) – President Truong Tan Sang has asked Lang Son province to press ahead with building new-style rural areas and consider this as an important solution to poverty in disadvantaged regions.

At a working session with officials of the northern mountainous province on February 16, he asked for detailed reports on Vietnamese companies’ new livestock farming projects.

He expressed his belief that the close coordination between provincial agencies and businesses will greatly assist farmers to produce competitive agricultural products.

The President recognised local development achievements, including a fair growth rate, facilitated cross-border trade activities, and ensured social welfares. Lang Son has also promoted peace and friendship along its border with China, which is a good precondition for integration and stronger growth.

He also requested more efforts to raise local residents’ living standards and curb shifting cultivation.

At the session, local officials reported that on the occasion of the Lunar New Year, the provincial People’s Committee gave aid to 4,000 impoverished households with almost 13,000 people, and delivered the President’s gifts to nearly 7,700 social policy beneficiaries.

Social order and safety was guaranteed, while border security was ensured during the freshly-ended Lunar New Year holiday, they added.

During his stay in Lang Son, President Truong Tan Sang visited residents in Yen Khoai, Tu Mich and Mau Son communes, and border guards and other forces based at the Huu Nghi International Border Gate.

He offered incense at the Lang city cemetery, home to 400 soldiers and officers falling down in resistance wars, including 300 who laid down their lives during the war protecting the homeland’s northern border.-VNA
