LamDong (VNA) – The Central Highlands province of Lam Dong has set atarget to reduce its rate of poor household to below 1.9 percent by 2020 fromthe current 2.85 percent.
Theinformation was released at a conference held on April 25 to review the local effortsin implementing the national programme on sustainable poverty alleviation for2016 – 2020.
Asheard at the event, in the past three years, Lam Dong’s rate of poor householdsdecreased from 5.19 percent to 2.85 percent. The 15,900 needy families in 2016were reduced to more than 9,000, including 6,000 from local ethnic minoritygroups.
2018was considered the most successful year of the efforts, with 3,895 householdsescaping poverty.
DaLat city and the districts of Cat Tien, Don Duong, Duc Trong, and Lac Duong wereleading localities in terms of poverty reduction during 2016-2018.
Betweennow and 2020, Lam Dong will strive to ensure at least 20 percent of poor andnear poor households engaging in poverty alleviation programmes on an annualbasis. It will also work to make per capita income of poor families to increaseby 1.5 times by the end of 2020 compared to 2015.
Chairmanof the provincial People’s Committee Doan Van Viet asked localities to reviewtheir past performances and set out tasks to complete remaining workload inorder to help Lam Dong meet its sustainable poverty reduction target.-VNA
