Lai Chau (VNA) – All preparations for the early election of deputies to the 14th National Assembly and all-level People’s Councils in the 2016-2021 tenure, slated for May 15 in Muong Te border district in the northern mountainous province of Lai Chau, have been completed.
Mai Van Thach, Chairman of the People’s Committee and head of the Election Committee of Muong Te, said that the district’s Ta Ba, Ta Tong and Mu Ca communes are home to more than 5,800 voters. The localities are underdeveloped areas where transport is inconvenient so several polling stations can only be reached by walking.
Therefore, all materials related to the election were transported to the constituencies far away from the communal centre to be available, with the forces serving the election, as from May 13.
The district has also distributed over 80 ballot boxes to serve dispersed residential areas.
The official General Election day is slated for May 22, a Sunday, as according to law.
According to statistics from the Ministry of Home Affairs, 63 provincial election committees, 712 district election committees and 11,162 communal election committees have been formed nationwide.
There are 184 constituencies for the NA elections and 87,805 constituencies for People’s Council elections at all levels. One election group is established for each polling station, totalling 91,221 groups across the country.
Several remote, border and island areas will organise voting earlier than the official General Election day.-VNA
