“Kong: Skull Island” director to be Vietnam’s tourism ambassador

Jordan Charles Vogt-Roberts, director of the latest Hollywood blockbuster “Kong: Skull Island” has been appointed as tourism ambassador of Vietnam in the 2017-2020 tenure.

Hanoi (VNA) - JordanCharles Vogt-Roberts, director of the latest Hollywoodblockbuster “Kong: Skull Island” has been appointed as tourismambassador of Vietnam in the 2017-2020 tenure.

At their meeting in Hanoi on March 9, all the 13 members of the council for appointment and dismissal of tourism ambassador establishedby the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, agreed tochoose Director Vogt-Roberts as the new tourism ambassador.

As planned, the director will receive the appointment decision at a ceremony onMarch 13 to become the first foreign artist appointed to the post.

He will work to promote Vietnam’s tourism through activities related tocommunication, art and photography, among others.

Jordan Charles Vogt-Roberts isan US film and television director and screenwriter.
He made his directorial debut with the film The Kings of Summer at the 2013Sundance Film Festival, where it was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize. It wasalso screened at the 2013 Cleveland International Film Festival.

It won the Narrative FeatureAudience Award at the 2013 Dallas International Film Festival.
Vogt-Roberts is also co-writer and director of TV series.

The “Kong: Skull Island” - the story about a groupof explorers who go into the jungle to discover the birthplace of the lord ofgiant apes, will officially hit cinemas in Vietnamand worldwide on March 10.

Vietnam is one of the three destinations selected for filming, in addition toHawaii and Australia, thanks to its wild and marvelous natural scenes.

Scenes of the film were shot in Trang An, Van Long and Tam Coc in thenorthern province of Ninh Binh; the Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park, Rao NanRiver and Yen Phu Lake in the central province of Quang Binh; and Ha Long Bayin the northern coastal province of Quang Ninh.

Vogt-Roberts is hopeful that the film will encourage more people to visitVietnam, although he said he is mindful of both the advantages and pitfalls.-VNA
