Kon Tum, southern Lao provinces beef up cooperation

Vietnam’s Central Highlands province of Kon Tum and southern provinces of Laos have enjoyed fruitful cooperation in recent years, especially in the fields of education, human resource development, socio-cultural activities, transport, tourism and agriculture.

Kon Tum (VNA) – Vietnam’s CentralHighlands province of Kon Tum and southern provinces of Laos have enjoyedfruitful cooperation in recent years, especially in the fields of education,human resource development, socio-cultural activities, transport, tourism andagriculture.

The four southern provinces of Laos have helped the Vietnamese locality searchand rebury remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers who laid downtheir lives in Laos.

However, the outcomes have yet to match potentialand expectations of both sides. Kon Tum wants to strengthen cooperative ties withits Lao partners in a more sustainable and extensive manner in the future.

In the coming time, Kon Tum and the four provinces of Laos plan to proposetheir respective governments upgrade infrastructure at border gates and conductjoint patrols along the shared borderline in a bid to prevent smuggling andillegal mining and forestry product exploitation.

Kon Tum wants the Lao provinces to focus more on exchangingdelegations to share management experience and improve their qualifications.

Meanwhile, the Lao localities desireto better coordinate in implementing the memorandum of understanding amongthem, and continue multifaceted cooperation, thus contributing to thefriendship between the two nations.

On the occasion of the 55th founding anniversaryof Vietnam-Laos diplomatic ties and 40 years since the signing of theVietnam-Laos Treaty of Amity and Cooperation, Kon Tum donated 8billion VND (352,000 USD) to social welfare programmes in the four provinces ofLaos.-VNA
