The Mekong Delta province of Kien Giang has carried out a project aiming to bolster international cooperation for socio-economic development of ethnic groups in tandem with a decision of the Prime Minister.

Kien Giang (VNA) – The MekongDelta province of Kien Giang has carried out a project aiming to bolsterinternational cooperation for socio-economic development of ethnic groups intandem with a decision of the Prime Minister.

In the 2013-20 period, the province successfullycalled on nearly 50 foreign organisations and individuals as well as domesticcharity organisations to build rural infrastructure for ethnic minority people.Some 54.4 billion VND (2.35 million USD) was disbursed out of the total of 88.6billion VND, equivalent to 64.42 percent.

The province has rolled out 105 programmesand projects in the fields of poverty alleviation and social welfare;vocational training, capacity enhancement and job creation; healthcare; agricultureand rural development; natural resources and environment; and climate changeadaptation.

The rate of poor households among ethnicgroups in Kien Giang was reduced to about 4.7 percent.

The province is now home to approximately66,520 ethnic families of more than 280,250 residents, accounting for 15.48percent of its population. Most of them earn a living through agriculturalproduction, trade, services and industry.

Vice Chairman of the provincial People’sCommittee Lam Minh Thanh said Kien Giang will further bolster internationalcooperation for socio-economic development of ethnic minority groups for the2021-25 and devise mobilisation plans on investment promotions across variousspheres.

It will also call for sponsorship in localethnic minority groups’ cultural conservation and development./.

Tien Giang strives to reduce poverty rate to 0.87% this year
