Kien Giang (VNA) – The Mekong Delta province of Kien Giang has approveda programme on urban development through 2025, aiming to meet local socio-economicdevelopment needs in the context of international integration and to improvelocal living standards.
Under the programme, the urbanization ratio is targeted to reach 41 percent by2025. Some 23 urban areas are expected to be developed, including 2 urban areas Type I, one Type II, one Type III, fiveType IV and 14 Type V.
Measures will be taken to mobilise resources to realise the province’s goals,including using the state and local budgets and calling for domestic andforeign investment.
The province will help investors carry out urban development projects and hastenthe completion of underway construction works.
Three large-scale urban projects are being developed in the province,comprising the 262-hectare Phu Cuong urban area, a sea-encroaching urban areaproject worth more than 3 trillion VND (132.2 million USD) in Rach Gia city andthe 287-hectare Bai Dai resort worth more than 17.1 trillion VND (753.6 millionUSD) on Phu Quoc island.
According to Nguyen Quoc Su, Chairman of the People’s Committee of Rach Gia city,together with Phu Cuong urban area, the sea-encroaching urban area will meethousing demand from local people while beautifying the city.
The move also helps Rach Gia city become an urban area Type I and a modelcoastal urban area in the Mekong Delta region, he added.-VNA
