Hanoi (VNA) – The Vietnam Women’s Union (VWU) has designated2019 as the safe year for women and children, aiming to mobilise the engagementof the entire political system and society in joint efforts to ensure safetyfor the groups.
These efforts have been made for many years, contributing to realisingsustainable and millennium development goals, as well as the 2011-2020 nationalstrategy of gender equality, Nguyen Thi Tuyet, VWU’s Vice President, said at apress conference in Hanoi on March 1.
This year’s programme will focus on safety for women and children in differentenvironments such as family, school, workplace and social network, along withfood safety and hygiene.
Tuyet said a ceremony to mark the 109th International Women’s Dayand launch the programme will be organised in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City onMarch 6 with various activities such as painting exhibitions, a showcase of safefarm produce, and health and law consultations.
Winners of the Kovalevskaya Award 2018, which isdesigned to honour the most outstanding female scientists who have gainedremarkable achievements in the scientific research and application, will be announcedat a ceremony at the Hanoi Medical University on March 4.
On this occasion, there will be an exchange between female scientists andstudents, the official said.
The VWU Central Committee in conjunction with the Ho Chi Minh Communist YouthUnion Central Committee and the UN Women will hold a dialogue with students ongender equality and safety for women and children at the Hanoi Law Universityon March 13. -VNA
