Hanoi (VNA)– The Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences (VASS) and the Japan InternationalCooperation Agency (JICA) in Vietnam signed a cooperation deal on July 24 inHanoi, looking to contribute to promoting sustainable development in Vietnam.
Under the deal, JICA and VASS reasserted their long-term cooperation incontributing to the building of a socio-economic development strategy forVietnam in 2021-2030.
The two will work together in building socio-economic development plans for theMekong delta province of Ben Tre and the northern mountainous province of HaGiang, and doing research on newly emerging countries in Asia.
One of Vietnam’s leading research institutes, VASS has cooperated with JICA inmany fields. Over the past nine years, they supported the drafting of the2011-2020 socio-economic development strategy as well as assisted the CentralHighlands province of Lam Dong in developing a renewal model and policy for itsagricultural sector.
Addressing the signing ceremony, VASS President Nguyen Quang Thuan said the dealprovides an important foundation for increased cooperation for sustainabledevelopment in Vietnam in general, and in Ha Giang, Ben Tre and Lam Dongprovinces in particular.
JICA Deputy Chief in Vietnam Naomichi Murooka said Vietnam is an attractiveinvestment destination and Ha Giang boasts a lot of untapped strengths.
He said with its experience, JICA will support projects and scientific ideas ofVASS scientists and promote the results of these works in and outsideVietnam.-VNA
