Japan’s justice ministry keeps all-round cooperation with Vietnam

The Japanese Ministry of Justice will continue comprehensive cooperation with Vietnam to help the Southeast Asian country perfect its legal system, Minister Yoko Kamikawa said.

Tokyo (VNA) – The Japanese Ministry of Justicewill continue comprehensive cooperation with Vietnam to help the SoutheastAsian country perfect its legal system, Minister Yoko Kamikawa told ChiefJustice of the Supreme People’s Court of Vietnam Nguyen Hoa Binh on September22.

At their meeting in Tokyo, Minister Kamikawaexpressed her admiration for Vietnam’s achievements, noting that building ajudicial mechanism that operates stably and effectively is critically importantto economic development and social stability.

Hailing judicial reform efforts by theVietnamese Supreme People’s Court, she said the two countries’ judicialcooperation has thrived over the last two decades. Japan has assisted Vietnamto fine-tune the law system and relevant mechanisms and policies since 1995.

She voiced her hope that Vietnam will succeed injudicial reforms.

The minister also thanked Chief Justice Binh forhis attention to bilateral cooperation projects, including a UNAFEI trainingprogramme for judicial officials.

Japan plans to work with the Supreme People’sCourt of Vietnam to organise a workshop in 2018, she noted, asking forVietnam’s support of the event. The minister also invited Vietnam to aninternational judges’ forum hosted by the Justice Ministry and the SupremeCourt of Japan this October.

For his part, Chief Justice Binh said theextensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and Japan is flourishing,particularly in economy. He stressed that Vietnam has made great progress injudicial reform with the cooperation of the Japanese Ministry of Justice since1998. 

With the help of Japanese experts, Vietnam hascompleted its legal regulations on justice, he noted.

TheChief Justice of the Supreme People’s Court of Vietnam is in Japan to attendthe 17th Conference of theChief Justices of Asia and the Pacific held in Tokyo, Japan, from September19-21.-VNA
