Japanese prosecutors informed of Vietnam’s judicial reform

Prosecutor General of the Supreme People’s Procuracy Le Minh Tri has introduced Vietnam’s judicial reform to prosecutors at Japan’s Ministry of Justice, as part of his working visit to the country from October 15 to 20.

Tokyo (VNA) – Prosecutor General of the SupremePeople’s Procuracy Le Minh Tri has introduced Vietnam’s judicial reform toprosecutors at Japan’s Ministry of Justice, as part of his working visit to thecountry from October 15 to 20.

The event attracted the participation of hundreds ofJapanese prosecutors and law researchers.

Delivering his presentation, Tri said the Vietnamese Party,Government, and National Assembly have prioritised judicial reform towardsadvancing democracy, transparency, and openness, as well as ensuring humanrights.

To realise such targets, the 2013 Constitution and a numberof judicial acts have seen key amendments made regarding criminal justice, theofficial noted.

According to him, many principles have been added, includingthe internal and external monitoring of all operations of agencies carrying outcriminal procedures; a penal offender’s right to be presumed innocent untilproved guilty according to law in a public trial; and the right to becompensated for damage to psychological and material possessions, among others.

Tri also presented Vietnam’s measures towards preventing a miscarriageof justice and legal loopholes that allow criminals to escape punishment,highlighting that they are key to local judicial reform and an effectivemeasurement of crime combat.

Among measures introduced by the prosecutor general werefighting corruption, raising the responsibilities of organisations’ leaders,promulgating the law on State compensation liability, and improving thecapacity of prosecutors.

Participants praised Vietnam’s judicial reform particularlyin ensuring human rights and citizen’s rights, and boosting the capacity ofprosecutors. They said the Japanese side will continue to help Vietnam completeits legal system in contribution to building a state of law. 

Earlier, Prosecutor General Tri had separate meetings with thejustice and foreign ministers of Japan. He was scheduled to visit Shizuoka andKyoto prefectures on October 18 and 19.–VNA
