Japanese Prime Minister visits Philippines

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport on July 26, beginning his two-day official visit to the Philippines at the invitation of President Benigno Aquino III.

This is the last leg of Abe's three-Asian-nation tour. Earlier, he visited Malaysia and Singapore .

PM Abe is expected meet President Benigno Aquino III on July 27 todiscuss bilateral cooperation and regional issues, and ways to furtheradvance the Strategic Partnership between the Philippines and Japan.

Spokesman of the Philippine Department of ForeignAffairs (DFA) Raul Hernandez said that the territorial disputes on theEast Sea will be "part and parcel of regional issues" during themeeting between the two leaders.

The Philippinesattaches importance to the Japanese PM’s visit as it elevates thePhilippines-Japan strategic partnership to an even higher plane ofvigor, dynamism and relevance.

Japan is one ofonly two strategic partners of the Philippines . In 2012, Japan wasthe Philippines’ number one trade partner and provider of officialdevelopment assistance as well as the second major source of approvedinvestments and third source of tourist arrivals.-VNA

Indonesia begins major oil, gas exploration in Sulawesi

Indonesia's state-owned oil company Pertamina, along with foreign partners Sinopec from China and Kuwait’s Kufpec, has signed a contract to explore the Melati oil and gas block, located off the coast of Sulawesi. The block is estimated to contain trillions of cubic feet of gas reserves.
