Hanoi (VNA) – A ceremony was held in Hanoi onMarch 20 by the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organisations to present acommemorative medal to Japanese outgoing ambassador Umeda Kunio.
VUFO President Nguyen Thi Phuong Nga presented the medal “ForPeace, Friendship among Nations” to the diplomat and said the honour is torecognise his valuable contributions to the consolidation and strengthening ofthe mutual understanding, friendship, solidarity and cooperation between thetwo peoples.
Since October 2016, the ambassador has made very activecontributions to the boosting of the bilateral relations in every field. He hasalways given attention and support to the VUFO and the Vietnam – Japan FriendshipAssociation.
Besides, the diplomat has also made active contributions tothe organisation of various cultural events and accelerated the cooperationbetween the two countries’ firms and localities, as well as the implementationof assistance projects of the Japanese government in Vietnam’s provinces andcities.
Nga expressed her belief that in the time to come, Umedawill continue his active contributions to the consolidation and development ofbilateral solidarity, friendship and cooperation in whatever position he willbe holding.
For his part, the Japanese diplomat affirmed bilateralrelations will further develop, and pledged to do his utmost to push up theties.
Vietnam and Japan established official diplomatic relationson September 21, 1973. In 2009, the two established their bilateral strategicpartnership and upgraded it to the extensive strategic partnership for peaceand prosperity in Asia in March 2014.
