Hanoi (VNA) – Japanese Defence Minister Kishi Nobuo is making an official visit toVietnam from September 10-12 at the invitation of his Vietnamese counterpart,General Phan Van Giang.
Host and guest heldtalks following an official welcome ceremony in Hanoi on September 11, duringwhich Giang spoke highly of the first overseas trip by his guest, while thevisitor highly valued Vietnam’s recent achievements in national building anddefence.
The two sides spokehighly of the bilateral defence ties over the recent past; exchanged ideas onregional and world situation of mutual concern, including the importance of freedomto navigation and aviation in the context of the complex developments in theregion. They reaffirmed the need for the compliance with international law,including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS1982), and exchanged experiences in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic ofeach other’s army.
The two ministers alsoexchanged ideas on the orientations for the Vietnam-Japan defence cooperationin the new period and welcomed the signing of the agreement on the transfer ofdefence technology and equipment.
They agreed that the twosides will closely collaborate in the implementation of programmes withinmultilateral and regional mechanisms, and actively push cooperation activitiesto make active contributions to peace, stability and development in the regionand the world over./.
