Speaking at the 11th Mekong-Japan Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Singapore on August 3, JapaneseForeign Minister Taro Kono said the Japanese government will offer support viaquality infrastructure development that matches the demand of Mekong countriesand develop human resources in the fields of industry, health care andtraining.
The ministers affirmeddetermination to intensify coordination between the Mekong-Japan cooperation andthe Mekong River Commission (MRC), especially in sustainable management ofwater resources, including trans-border water resources.
Vietnamese Deputy Prime Ministerand Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh spoke highly of the role of the Mekong –Japan cooperation and the Japanese government’s support in building a sub-regionof peace, prosperity and sustainable development.
He also hailed the outcomes ofprojects within the Tokyo Strategy 2015 framework, including over 120 projectsin Vietnam.
In order to improve theefficiency of cooperation among member countries, he suggested developing amulti-modal transport system and a logistics system connecting sub-regional citiesand provinces, promoting industrialisation via building industrial chains anddeveloping quality workforce, and facilitating sustainable development to builda Green Mekong.-VNA
