Tokyo (VNA) – Japanese Foreign Minister Motegi Toshimitsu on April 14 affirmed that his country highly values the leadership by Vietnam during the ASEAN ChairmanshipYear 2020.
Speakingat a press conference in Tokyo, Motegi said Japan took note ofVietnam's proactive call on ASEAN member states to cope with the COVID-19and organising an online special ASEAN+3 summit on responding to the pandemic.
The videoconference isscheduled to take place on April 14 afternoon with the participation of leaders from the 10 ASEAN member nations and the bloc’s three partners, namely China, theRepublic of Korea, and Japan.
Accordingto Motegi, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe will attend the event.
He added that Japanwill discuss measures to contain the spread of the pandemic and enhanceinternational cooperation and joint actions in fiscal and monetary policies to boosteconomy in countries and support developing ones./.
