At the opening of the two-day seminar, coinciding with the 17th meetingof the Southeast Asian Regional Branch of the International Council onArchives (SARBICA)’s executive board, Minister of Home Affairs Tran VanTuan emphasised the importance of the digitisation of archival records,especially in the era of IT development and the period of internationalintegration.
Vietnam’s hosting of the seminar and SARBICA’s executive board meetingdemonstrates the valuable contributions of the country’s archive sectorto the international body, he said.
This is also a chance for Vietnamese archivists learn about others’experiences in the digitisation of records and approaches to issuesrelating to the update of archives, the Minister added.
According to Vu Thi Minh Huong, Head of the State Records Managementand Archives Department of Vietnam, the seminar, which attracted 182delegates from SARBICA members as well as speakers from the US andFrance, will adopt a resolution on records digitisation.
The 17th meeting of SARBICA’s executive board will review theoperations of 10 member countries and discuss the branch’s action planin the coming time.
Established in 1968, SARBICA gathers 10 members-- Brunei, Cambodia,Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore,Thailand and Vietnam./.
