Wearing their nations’ traditional costumes, children from eight countries will sing the song We Are The World at the International Children’s Festival 2018, which will be held in central Khanh Hoa province’s Nha Trang city from May 29 to June 3.

- Wearingtheir nations’ traditional costumes, children from eight countries will singthe song We Are The World atthe International Children’s Festival 2018, which will be held in central KhanhHoa province’s Nha Trang city from May 29 to June 3.

A colourful party featuringmusic, circus and dance performances by children will take place on June 1 atVinpearl Land Nha Trang. It will be broadcast live on channel VTV1.Participating in the show will be pop singer Dong Nhi and little opera singerPhuong Khanh.

Director Viet Tu and musician HuyTuan will set up the show and select the pieces to be performed.

With the theme of “For a GreenPlanet”, the festival will encourage children to enjoy outdoor activities toraise awareness of the importance of protecting the environment and buildingthe Earth as a place where people can live in harmony with nature.

The festival, initiated by VietnamTelevision (VTV), is organised annually on the occasion of InternationalChildren’s Day (June 1) to strengthen the friendship and solidarity of regionalcountries through cultural activities and exchange between children.

At its first iteration in 2016,the festival gathered children from ASEAN countries. Last year, it drew theparticipation of children from ASEAN countries as well as Japan and theRepublic of Korea. This year, it will become a fullyinternational festival with the participation of Thailand,the Philippines, Indonesia, Russia, China, theRepublic of Korea, Japan andVietnam.

Each troupe consists of eight to15 members. As the host, Vietnam has 30 members taking part in the event.

Another highlight of the festivalis the street carnival to be held on June 2. It will feature a parade, games,music and dance performed at the Ocean Square of Vinpearl Land Nha Trang.Traditional folk dance, music, choir and hip hop performances are expected tocreate a cheerful and energetic atmosphere for children.

“The festival is a meaningfulevent,” said head of the organising board Dang Diem Quynh. “It’s a chance tobuild friendship, enhance solidarity and convey our message that the wholeworld can join hands to care for and nurture the young generation towards abright future.”

“Through the festival, we alsowant to promote the image of Vietnam and its people.”

“The children may not need toperform on the splendid stage or in the spotlight, and they will be happybecause they can exchange with international friends and learn from differentcultures.”

Quynh said the organisers wantcreate a happy time for the children, above all.

“Until now, we have cooperatedwith partners from many countries. Next year, we expect to bring children fromadditional countries to the festival.”-VNA
