The Statistics Indonesia announced that the country’s export valuereached 16.12 billion USD in May, up 12.47 percent, compared with 14.47 billionUSD in April and a 9.01 percent growth.
Some commodities saw hikes in prices and demand, including coal, nickel,aluminum and copper, head of the statistic agency Kecuk Suhariyanto said.
The country saw a 28.12 percent growth in import value in May, to 17.64billion USD, compared with a 34.68 percent growth to 16.09 billion USD in thepreivous month.
The huge differential of export and import led to a trade deficit of 1.52billion USD in May.
Indonesia is the world's largest exporter and producer of palm oil andcoal, and the world’s biggest exporter of rubber and cocoa. It is also home tothe second largest copper mine worldwide.
Export along with consumption and investment contributed the most to thecountry’s gross domestic product growth.-VNA
