Jakarta (VNA) – Indonesian PresidentJoko Widodo’s state visit to Vietnam in September is expected to create new momentumfor the bilateral strategic partnership, a diplomat said.

Vietnamese Ambassador to Indonesia Pham VinhQuang made the statement at a meeting with President Widodo in Jakarta onAugust 13 after presenting his letter of credence to the Indonesian leader.

Reporting to the President on the development ofthe strategic partnership set up in 2013 and on the two countries’implementation of the action programme for 2014-2018, Quang affirmed that Vietnameseleaders and people want to further deepen these ties.

He stressed that Vietnam and Indonesia bothhave large populations and are big economies in the region, hence they have significantpotential for stronger economic cooperation.

The diplomat affirmed that the VietnameseGovernment has always created favourable conditions for long-term and effectiveoperations of foreign investors, including those from Indonesia.

Quang proposed that the President and theIndonesian Government continue to encourage Indonesian firms to expand businessand partnerships in Vietnam, thus increasing bilateral trade to fulfil demandand reach its full potential.

On the occasion, the ambassador wishedIndonesia successful organisation of the ASEAN Leaders’ Gathering (ALG), and theannual meeting of the International Monetary Fund-World Bank Group nextOctober. He told his host that Vietnam will be sending a delegation to theevents.

For his part, President Widodo extended hisdelight at the bilateral relations and congratulated Vietnam on its recentsocio-economic development.

The President wished Vietnam success in hostingthe World Economic Forum on ASEAN in Hanoi from September 11-13.

President Widodo said he is looking forward todiscussing bilateral and multilateral matters with Vietnamese leaders as partof his visit in September.

Anticipating that the visit will see newagreements signed, the Indonesian leader stated that the Indonesian Governmentand business community wish to increase multifaceted cooperation with Vietnam.

He believed the two nations will strengthentheir mutual support concerning regional and international issues, therebyhelping to maintain peace, stability, and prosperity in the region and theworld at large.

The President congratulated Ambassador Quang onhis taking office during a critical time of bilateral relations, believing thatthe diplomat will make worthy contributions to the Vietnam-Indonesia strategicpartnership with practical and effective outcomes.–VNA
