Indonesian President meets military, police on budget increase

Indonesian President Joko Widodo held a meeting on the organisation and modernisation of the army and police in Jakarta on March 17.
Indonesian President Joko Widodo held a meeting on the organisation andmodernisation of the army and police in Jakarta on March 17.

The function saw the attendance of Vice President Jusuf Kalla,Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security affairs TedjoEdhi Purdijatno, and military chief Moeldoko.

Earlier, the president decided to raise national defence budget toapproximately 15 billion USD in 2017 from the current 7.7 billion USD.

The goal was set along with an expected economic growth of 7 percent.-VNA

Indonesia begins major oil, gas exploration in Sulawesi

Indonesia's state-owned oil company Pertamina, along with foreign partners Sinopec from China and Kuwait’s Kufpec, has signed a contract to explore the Melati oil and gas block, located off the coast of Sulawesi. The block is estimated to contain trillions of cubic feet of gas reserves.
