Jakarta (VNA) – The Indonesian Police saidon June 28 they have arrested 642 suspects charged with human trafficking duringa crackdown this month.
Director of General Crimes at the NationalPolice's Criminal Investigation Agency, Brigadier General Djuhandhani RahardjoPuro saidthat until June 28, police have uncovered 553 human trafficking cases involvingas many as 642 suspects.
Policealso rescued 1,826 victims during the ongoing crackdown on people smugglingsyndicates from June 5-27, he said.
Ananti-people smuggling task force was established early this month, followingdirectives from President Joko Widodo, who also initiated a regional responseto combat people smuggling in Southeast Asia during Indonesia’s chairmanship ofASEAN this year./.
