Jakarta (VNA) – Indonesia will conduct a trial run oncivil servants working from home, beginning with 1,000 staff of the NationalDevelopment Planning Ministry on January 1, 2020.
Minister for Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform Tjahjo Kumolotold reporters on November 22 that in an era in which much work andcommunication can be conducted online, civil servants can work from home, aslong as the work is done according to schedule.
Tjahjo argued that it was possible for some civil servants to workfrom anywhere. He said he sometimes worked while on the road in his car.
“Workdoesn’t always have to be done in the office,” he said.
Theminister acknowledged the concern that civil servants might be unproductive ifthey were not required to work at the office. However, he said it was doable ifclear targets were set and punishment meted out to those who failed to reachthe targets.
Headded that the ministry would give the freedom to each government officeregarding the work policy./.
