Jakarta (VNA) - Indonesia is committed to improving its active role in the United Nations (UN), according to Dian Triansyah Djani, Indonesian Ambassador to the UN.
The ambassador made the statement during a ceremony to present his credentials to the Secretary General of the UN, Ban Ki-moon, on April 12 at the UN Headquarters in New York .
Ambassador Djani delivered a message from Indonesian President Joko Widodo to the UN Secretary General, indicating that Indonesia continues to promote the principle of multilateralism in addressing global issues, especially those that have direct impacts on the national interests of Indonesia .
The diplomat reiterated Indonesia 's commitment to enhancing cooperation with the UN, specifically in UN peacekeeping missions.
He also expressed Indonesia 's wish to become a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council in the 2019-2020 term, as well as the country’s commitment to contributing to the implementation of the UN’s 2030 Agenda for sustainable development.
Welcoming the Indonesian ambassador, the UN Secretary General spoke highly of the important role Indonesia plays in the UN in addressing climate change-related issues, along with implementing the 2030 Agenda and the world's humanitarian missions.-VNA
