Jakarta (VNA) – Thousands ofresidents in Indonesia’s capital Jakarta have been evacuated due to floodingthough the levels of rivers swollen by the release of water from a reservoirupstream have been dropping, according to Jakarta’s governor.
The torrential rain caused inundation insatellite cities around Jakarta on February 5. Especially, landslides in Bogorcity left eight people missing.
At least 12 areas in Jakarta along with over4,300 city dwellers were affected.
Indonesia’s Ministry of Social Affairs reportedthat 3,100 residents and 831 households in low-lying areas were evacuated toshelters.
Minister Idrus Marham said some tents and publickitchens were set up in some areas right on February 6 night while thelogistics support has also been carried out in several regions in East Jakarta.
On February 6, the water level in South Jakartawent up to 175cm, submerging some districts such as Tebet Kebon Baru, PasarMinggu, and Village Banka.
On the previous day, the JakartaDisaster Management Agency (BPBD) warned locals of possible floods andcalled them to stay ready to cope with.-VNA
