Speaking at a press conference onAugust 13, Speaker of the House of Representatives MarzukiAlie said the centre will maintain databases aiding lawmakers in theirlegislative work.
The House is currentlyconsidering the approval of 23 bills relating to low-cost housing, houserenting regulations and the protection of Indonesian labourers workingoverseas.
The planned centre will help rebuildsome of the country’s controversial laws, including the Criminal Code,which is strongly influenced by the Netherlands Indies Criminal Code,Alie said.
The speaker said that the reform of this code would be one of Indonesia’s greatest achievements.-VNA
